Earlier this month, Dyfed & Stephanie visited the Llandeilo food hub, where they met with Christoph Fisher and volunteers to find out more about the hub’s services and what it means to the community of Llandeilo.
Situated behind the school just off the road of Rhosmaen street, you will find the community food hub, which is run entirely by volunteers mainly associated with the Llandeilo Primary school.
History of the Hub
The food hub was set up over a year ago and for a time not only gave food to people in need but also delivered meals.
That side moved over to Carmarthenshire County council, including the meals for NHS staff as people had more specific needs.
The hub’s work also saw the volunteers collect toiletries for hospital patients while they were isolated, mainly in conjunction with Cross hands food hub.
How the Hub has evolved
The food hub now prepares food parcels for up to 100 families. As we know these people now, we are making up the parcels tailored to the families’ individual needs.
Some need a parcel every week. Some get by most of the time but need a top-up to see through, especially if an unexpected bill like an MOT or similar can impact their finances.
Aspirations of the hub
There is hope to develop the food hub into a food education hub, teaching families to cook economically and budget, which will be a great opportunity to support even more people from within our community.
How to get involved and help, including where to donate
The Covid 19 Support Group is collecting food on their behalf every day of the week between 2 pm and 4 pm at the Rugby Club / Cae Williams Llandeilo.
The hub also accepts monetary donations; if you cannot visit a drop-off point, don’t hesitate to contact the hub directly should you wish to make a financial contribution.
The Red Dot partnership- get involved and help to support
At Red Dot, we believe that communities are at the heart of everything we do, and we would like to give a little something back. We have teamed up with the food hub, allowing people to donate to the food hub through our rewards scheme. Click here to find out more (Red Dot Food Hub rewards leaflet)
What the hub could benefit from receiving
Particularly needed are meals for single people, be that ready meals or tinned meat or fish. In addition to pasta sauces, pasta, bread, tinned soups, gluten-free products, toiletries…
Everything can and will be used given the high number of people we support.
How to stay connected with the hub
You can keep up to date with the great work of the hub by following their Facebook page, which you can access via this external link Llandeilo Food Hub | Facebook
